The cabinet needs a new back (leaning against MDF to the right) after new bracing for the shelf is added.

    Scrap Workbench Pic 6

The frame was designed so the cabinet will be inset. The MDF floor was added because there is no floor inside the cabinet. Space on the right is for the 6in vise.

3/4in MDF floor notched out and set in place. Posts on the left side of frame will be screwed to cabinet so no cross brace required. Instead tool storage will go between the posts.

I've notched out the corners of the 3/4in MDF that will be the floor of the bench and added cross braces in the bottom of the frame.

    Gauge Block from Scrap....

Taking a queue from Tom Hintz and his website, I decided to try my hand at putting together a Gauge/stop block for my tablesaw... http://www.newwoodworker.com/buldgagblk.html Looking around the "shop", I managed to find several 12"x12" 3/4" plywood cutoffs sitting in a corner, a 1/4-20 T-nut...

When is an off cut a scrap, or worse garbage ?

Lefty Tom's recent post about making a planer cart out of scraps got me thinking..... At what point do you decide that an off-cut is a scrap, and then when that scrap is garbage ? I've been doing a little straightening up of my shop (much needed) for the upcoming shop crawl and have been...

Not Ready 4 Scrap Pile Follies

I read the posts where some members were having good luck finding uses for leftover wood, so I thought I would give it a go. I've been meaning to build a mobile stand for my planer, and a quick measure of leftover ply found I had 23 pieces just the right size for my sides. I cut my top & back...

    Scrap wood furniture WIP

THE CHALLENGE My youngest (only one still in college!) moved off campus this year and needs one more piece of furniture; a small table, which she will probably throw away when she moves. And she wants to pick it up tomorrow! This is what I've done so far (lunch break). I'll make the drawer...

    Scrap wood and Plexiglass

My kids were in the shop last night using the new lathe again and so I decided to 'piddle' around with some things I had wanted to build. I never had a case for my Dado blade so I decided to build a case similar to something I saw on Tom Hintz site . . . . . Just a few pieces of scrap and an old...

PC base for Bosch router made from scrap

My Bosch router kit comes with 3 Bosch bushings, but I needed a larger one and Woodcraft had these nice, shiny, BRASS PC bushings (I have a weakness for shiny brass :rolf: ). I made a suitable base from scrap Masonite by copying the Bosch plunge base on the router table. A recess for the bushing...

    Combs from scrap

Is there really such a thing as "scrap wood"? Here's a couple of combs made from "scrap" Padauk and Hard Maple. 7" long x 2' tall x 1/4" thick. Grain of the maple runs with the length of the teeth. Padauk is glued with a tongue and groove joint to make the comb more rigid. I've included a .pdf...

    Scrap wood mallet

The handle is walnut - thanks to Kyle Joint is a tapered mortise with maple wedges. The head is a piece of zebra wood hollowed out, filled with lead shot and sandwiched between some mahogany. Another thank you to Mike for the leather on the faces.

    Another Scrap Wood Project

I found some plywood cutoffs that someone gave me a few years ago and make a shoe cabinet for the garage that LOML wanted. After she paints it I will add the back. My scrap pile is slowly dwindling. I used the Router Dado jig from my earlier Scrap Wood post to cut the dados for the...
