Just a little square walnut bowl

I turned and finished this little fella in about 4 hours yesterday. It was good therapy and cheaper than seeing a Shrink! The top is 4 3/8" square. Height is 2 1/8". Polished to 2000 grit. Finish is.....(wait for it.......) Walnut oil !

Am I slipping back into the square world?

One of my students wanted to see how one goes about turning a square bowl they had seen on the net so I did this one for a demo for the class. It is the first square bowl I've turned but wasn't much different from the some Tea Light holders I made last month, just on a bigger scale. It is...

My Gramercy holdfasts from Tools For Working Wood arrived yesterday. I had already build a tiny workbench surface for testing. It is 2 7/8" thick with a round hole and two square holes. One of the square holes is 45deg to the other - I am curious if the angle has any effect on holding power on...

    Square end scraper magnetized?

I just bought a Crown square end scraper. As I started to use it today I noticed it would snap down on the tool rest like a magnet. It was strong enough that you had to pull up slightly to break it free. I need to know how to demagnetize it.

holdfast in square vs round holes - help me test?

A while back I asked about using a holdfast in square holes, since I've seen varying reports. I asked Gramercy, and they said square holes won't work but one or two people here said they work fine. Someone also suggested testing it myself. I initially dismissed that suggestion, but I'd like to...

next holdfast question - square holes?

Another newbie holdfast question... My searches have turned up a few people saying "holdfasts will not work in a square hole" but few of those appear to have actually tried it. Roughly an equal number saying "they work fine for me in square holes". Nothing either way too definitive. Christopher...
