    EDIT - I posted another thread after a day or two because it started to become evident that the "sweetgum" might actually be sweetgum after all. It isn't as dark as I expected though. Anyway, closing this thread as it seems I don't have a massive amount of poplar after all. I am lousy...

    Treating big fresh cut carving blanks

    So I got these: I have since put parafin on the ends. I assume I should debark (?). I am hoping to carve musical instruments out of these, so I want to try really hard to keep them from cracking. I know it may be a couple of years before I carve them.

    Not mine! dried poplar(1.80 bdft) not dried 1.45 bdft, fresh cut red cedar(1.80 bdft). have logs that have yet to be milled. red oak, white oak, hickory, ash, pin oak ,cedar. have dried pine at 5/4 and 2 inch! rough cut milled lumber (portable saw milling available)

    Fresh from the Lab

    I have been messing around in the shop and this is the first of a couple different mixes of wood. The yellow glue has stained some of the maple so I will try white glue next time and a finer blade in the saw :BangHead:
