It is now offfical. After 5 + long years, a few major headaches :BangHead: and not to mention lots of $$$$ my youngest daughter will be graduating from UNCP on Saturday. I am looking forward to a few more $$$ in my check book. On the down side there goes the peace and quiet of our empty nest...
I have been working off and on for 6 weeks with this project
The lady who commissioned this has a father who is a woodworker and she thought a portrait of an old photo of him and his friends would be a good Father's Day gift . It still isn't " finished " , right now it only has one coat of BLO...
Thanks to the help of C Powell, I finally got my Saylor Beall compressor up and running. I purchased this off Craigs list sometime last fall, sans a motor for $125.00 ( 5 hp 2 stage / 60 gal horizontal tank model) This is a stock photo which looks very much like mine.
I had to purchase...
Well been waiting for just the right sized log to max out my woodmizer.
I hit the limit today with around a 40" small end Pecan log. Pecan is member of the Hickory family and pretty rough on bands, it'll set bands on fire. I had to sharpen a few bands to almost a 0 degree hook angle, with...
Got started building my closet for my Cyclone which will be completed soon. I'm building it 5' x 6' and attaching it right to the side of my shop. Should be complete by next Saturday, depending on the amount of shop time I am able to get in this week.
This one took me a while but really wasn't that hard! I like the way the wood grain looks like the water!
Dave O tell me if you think one of your customers would like this!?!
This is one of those patterns that you see and think - someday I will feel confident enough to cut that. Well, I thought I was but found it very frustrating- not sure why. Anyway, at least it's cut. The first is cut from Walnut, the second Baltic Birch. The third is just a top view of the clouds...
Haven't had much shop time lately. Here's my feeble attempt at another acrylic pen AND photography!
It's Mother of Pearl with a Satin Pearl Kit. Both pics are the same pen w/different backgrounds. What can I do to improve the pics? (I know only more practice will help the pen turnings)...
First of all, thanks to all the guys here who helped me figure out AOL sucks. Knew it all along but just not as well. I finally got pics & descrips posted in my album of my shop progress. I hope to show you guys some real progress in the next few weeks.
This is my first official "after joining" gloat. Went and picked up lumber from Internet Lumber today. 100 bf of 4/ 4 ash for end tables for LOML. They threw in the smaller widths for free. Just wanted to post a real gloat. This will be my first attempt at a hardwood project so wish me luck...
I just received the latest edition of Woodsmith, and tucked into it was a one page article about new table saws being required to have Riving Knives rather than just splitters to carry the UL listing.
:eusa_clap
Yesterday I took a trip up to Pfafftown and met jtodd71 (also known as Jon) and picked up an awesome Dewalt 735 planer. Thank you Jon!!!
He also gave me the nickel tour of his shop and we talked for a while about dust collection, air filters and of course his new 15" planer. What a nice piece...
Hello,
Well I finally finished another project I have been working on for some time. The LOML asked me tile the floor in and to build in some cabinets, storage and a bench seat for use as a mud room. It has taken awhile but here it is.
Because of the size of the room I couldn’t get the entire...
I posted (4) months ago about turning my first pen. Why do I remember the exact date, well as you might recall my daughter was born a few hours later.
I really got the itch and with the new arrival I just haven't had the time in the shop I'd like. Plus I quickly realized setting the lathe up...

It only took 2500 board feet of lumber, 30 bags of concrete (The 80lb variety), 45 pounds of screws and nails, 75 of the 5/8" Galvanized bolts, A few sawblades and drill bits, four months, and a very patient wife.
The deck is done... I pretty much did the whole thing by myself with a bit of...

If you would remember back to my problem with the Carter Bearings upgrade to my Grizzly Band saw. http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10412
Well after a dozen or so emails with pics and phone conversations with Carter techs, I took the ball back into my court.
These...
Finally getting back to woodworking and actually spent some time in the shop yesterday and today. I finally finished reassembling my jointer and installing the Shelix!!!
First, though, I replaced two small parts that had probably broken when I got the jointer a few years back- little cast...
