Slabbing a Red Maple Burl Log

Here is a Red Maple Burl Log I slabbed out last week.. pretty nice material. Widest point was 36", 91 long and had burl, curl and birdseye to the pith. and the actual slabbing..

A Burl Bowl

White oak burl that somebody gave me. A commission of sorts. Here is the rough turning. there was a ton of bark. You can see that in the first pic. I turned it down smaller then I wanted, then dug out the rest of it. In the second pic you see the void. That will stay for the final turning...

Cherry Burl Mushroom Box

Unknown Spalted Burl on a Jr Statesman

I found a rather large burl this afternoon. It was about 12 " long by 10" wide. The tree was dead but didnt appear to have been dead long. I cut it and there was still some wet sap in it...I coated the ends with latex paint...didnt have any anchorseal...covered the ends with a grocery bag and...
