Jet Midi lathe 1014 bearings replacement walk through (picture heavy)

My poor little girl, the Jet Midi lathe VS1014 was in need of some bearing replacements. It should be a very straightforward process, you know the whole 'knock out a bearing and just replace it' kind of thing. I just thought I would share the repair in the event someone might be concerned...

I Went With a CHEAPER Bearing

Last night, I took my Delta OSS apart to replace a bearing. I went to FastenAl's web site and looked at their selection of 6002 bearings. One bearing stood out from the rest. Their SKU# 4126048, priced at THREE THOUSAND, THREE HUNDRED, TWENTY-SEVEN DOLLARS, and FORTY EIGHT CENTS ($3,327.48) To...

I just upgraded to a Jet 18" band saw with bearing guides. My former saw had conventional guides with cool blocks and i generally set the guides to a sheet of paper distance from the blade. How do I adjust the Jet guides to best tune the saw. i.e. should the blade actually be embedded in the...

    Cheap Bearing Heater

Today, I was changing out some bearings on an electric motor. Used puller to remove old ones. Took the new ones, one at a time and set it on top of a 60 watt light bulb (lit of course) for about three minutes. Wearing a leather glove picked up bearing an dropped it onto the shaft.

    lathe bearing

I think I have a bad bearing on my mini lathe. Dissembling was fairly easy even for me.:embaresse Any way the bearing is a 6005-RZ. When I looked on-line I see RS and ZZ bearings but no RZ. I have checked it several times and it clearly is RZ. Will RS or ZZ work in it's place and is there a...

Ball Bearing Drawers Slides Are Really Sucking

I'm about ready to take a 3lb hammer to two pairs of BORG bought heavy duty ball bearing drawer slides. The cabinet is square, the drawers are square. With the drawers closed one end of the drawer sticks out about a 1/8" of an inch from the cabinet on the RIGHT hand side. The other drawer...

Hi, I have a standard Delta 14" bandsaw that I have been ignoring and am starting to use again to cut blanks for wood turning. My problem is that on the lower guide assembly the mechanical setup that keeps the thrust bearing in place to keep the blade from being pushed back is not holding...

    Setting Bearing Guides on Bandsaw

Hi Y'all, I have set the bearing guides on my new band saw the way the book says to set them but I do not understand why they set them this way. If the bearing guide is to be set to where the bearings do not touch the blade how do they guide the blade without some drift? Can someone help explain...
