    Spraying setup?

I am looking for my first spray setup. As most of you know most of my work is on small projects so I am not looking for a major production setup. Currently I use a lot of rattle can products like Deft. I am thinking lacquer as it dries very fast but I am open. I do not have a spray booth.

    Spraying Stain

Is there any issue with spraying stain I'm looking at using some Cabot stain and would prefer to spray it instead of wiping it on. I can't think for any reason why it wouldn't work. My gun is able to spray latex so I wouldn't think it would be to thick or am I just missing the boat..

    Safe heater for spraying?

So, it's cold (suddenly, if you're not watching the calendar) and it is time to get more heat in my shop...40x 20 with 10' ceilings, well- insulated. Been heating with ventless propane 30k btu, which takes the edge off on most days. Now I am doing some lacquer spraying (rattle can) which will...

    Waterborne Finishes & HVLP Spraying

This is informative. The Earlex product line is very good and you can get a model 5500 for about $320. It's a good starter unit if you want to try spray finishing. http://thewoodwhisperer.com/waterborne-finishes-hvlp/ A couple of refrigerator/freezer cardboard boxes cut open work nicely...

    Spraying Pre-Cat.

Hey all, I have a few questions about spraying white paint for a project that I may have coming up. I have decided to give Mohawk pre-cat a try, using the primer first, followed by white, followed by clear. What is the best spray system, that's not too expensive(I'm trying to stay under...

What kind of Laquer/varnish is good for spraying

When my dad owned his cabinet shop, we'd finish the cabinets with a coat of sealer followed by two coats of deft lacquer. It was applied with a spray system. This was back int the 80's and early 90's and I think it's discontinued now because it was some unhealthy stuff. My question is....what's...

    Advice on Spraying Shellac

I have some pieces I've built out of white pine. My plan is to seal them with orange or garnet shellac to add some color and top coat with WB poly. There are 16 pieces so forget the brush and break out the HYLP. I've never sprayed shellac. Some sources say 1.5 lb. cut is the max. Others say a...

Spraying latex with the Earlex 5000

First of all, I'm no expert on spray finishes. With the exception of the spray can, this is my first time I haven't used a brush, rag or roller. So keep that in mind. I've been looking at getting a spray gun for a while now. I haven't progressed much beyond BLO and polyurethane, which is nice...

    The bed spraying story

Many have followed the questions I had from many months ago as I began the journey to "spraymanship" I had decided that enough was enough of the wipe on stuff and brushing finishes and time to get serious!! After much investigation I ended up with this spray gun: Amazon.com: Titan 4-Pc. HVLP...

    HVLP spraying

Based on DavidF's and SteveD's comments on spraying, I have broken down and bought a Porter Cable PSH1 gravity fed conversion HVLP spray gun and want to use it to finish a toy box (once I finish the construction). The directions/manual for the gun is the pits. I want to spray water based as...
