The standard Grizzly miter gauge that came with my bandsaw has gone kaput (plastic handle broke). So I am contemplating using my Jet miter gauge for the bandsaw, and getting a better one for my tablesaw.
I am leaning toward the Incra V120 (I like the 1 degree settings)...
What would be a good complementary or contrasting wood to use with cocobolo? My brother saw a small cocobolo bowl that I had made and he liked it. So I am thinking about either making a platter or a bandsaw bowl for him and his wife for Christmas. But was thinking about using 2 woods. Any...

I have a request to make a 10' long rustic kitchen table. In short, my question is what wood species should I consider, given that oak is out?

This will be a daily user table, as well as place to entertain/host (no formal dining...
Latest issue of FWW (Tools and Workshops) has an ad from Woodcraft for their new 1.5 HP air compressor. I looked on their web site and retail price is $119. Sears has the exact same compressor, except for color, almost always on sale for $99. If it isn't on sale, just wait till next week. So...
I've been thinking of building a workbench (that is after I finish my current project) for some time. My current setup of a plywood sheet and some sawhorses leaves something to be desired, especially when it comes to handplaning. From review/books/plans, hardwood benchtops are typically made...
I am looking at buying a new planer and am considering the 13" Rigid. Has anyone had any experience with this planer. The price is very competitive, but I read that the blades are secured by the end of the blade and wondered if that affected quality of cut.
I am considering upgrading to a more stationary drum sander. I am looking at the Steel City 26", model 55220 and the WoodTek 25". They are both in the same price range and have very similar stats. I cannot find any reviews on either of these tools. Does anyone here have any experience with...
We are in the process of rebuilding our deck, and am looking to do several 2x7' lattice panels. Any thoughts on what wood would work best? As this will be primed and painted, someone recommended using Douglas fir select, but I don't know about the long term durability of Douglas fir for exterior...
What saw blade brand/tpi is the best all around blade for your table saw?...Im just a hobbiest so 150 bucks for a blade is not really an option for me....Whats everyone prefer?
I am pretty sure there will be a good froe under the tree this year. I have been using a so-so one I made (bolt on handle that follows grain a little too willingly) and whacking it with whatever is handy. I want to start making purpose built ones in the future. I understand that they don't last...

I need help deciding which router bit set to order for stile and rails to apply glass in a set of doors. I am on line looking at mlcswoodworking.com. I need an opinion on a choice between a stack rail and stile or reversible rail and stile assembly for glass doors. I ordered the stack rail and...
I am considering upgrading from my ca1950 Delta lathe and have done a good deal of research lately. The Delta 46-715 looks good but there are what appear to be a lot of unhappy buyers. I may have narrowed the field down to the JET 708352 JWL-1236 or the Grizzly G0584.The HF and a couple of...
Hello,
I am looking to build a carpenters tool box to carry some of my hand tools. I was wondering what people thought might be a good choice for the wood. The main thing that I'm concerned about is that it be light. I also want it to be a nice piece. I'm thinking of hand cutting some...
I saw plans in one of the woodworking mags (can't remember which right now) for a wooden mallet with an intriguing dovetail for the handle. Thought I would try my hand, but I'm a little stumped over what wood I should use. The plans call for the head to be 2 1/2" x 5". I have some good red oak...
