Anyone up for a small group buy of pure tung oil?

This is the best deal I have found: http://antiquesupply.com/products/GOLDEN_S_PURE_TUNG_OIL_5_GL-3279-549.html I emailed them and it is about $23 to ship, no tax in NC, so it is slightly over $38 a gallon. Locally, it is about $55 a gallon plus tax. Any interest? EDIT - Closing thread...

    Tung oil, now what?

I recently finished a coffee table as seen here: http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/f29/coffee-table-project-completed-30512/ with a couple of coats of tung oil. I like the look of it as is now, however I wonder if I should put something else on the top to make it more durable, just as a...

    High-gloss Tung oil vs Low-gloss & Poly

I am fiishing my Teak picture frame with a couple of applications of Low-gloss Tung Oil then will follow with some oil base poly to get some gloss. I used this same method on some Walnut and really like the result. I am new to using Tung oil and I really like the way it brings out the grain...

Hey Guys, i am finishing a gunstock that appears to be made out of a somewhat softer wood (unknown) such as maple. I am wanting to stain the wood a light tannish brown color and also wanting to seal the wood with a tung oil-mineral spirits combination to get the water resiliency and somewhat of...

    Tung Oil - Food safe?

I've made a few bamboo kitchen utensils and plan to "field test" them to see if they hold up well enough to be worth selling cheap to friends, co-workers, etc... I'd like to put a least some type of finish on them to keep the grain sealed so it doesn't rise when washed. I have tung oil; is that...

    Boiled Linseed or Tung Oil?

Trying to go natural and finish a red oak cigar type box. The grain is stunning and I won't let stain hide it. Much difference in either option? I have both BLO and Tung Oil (low gloss) on hand, but I've never used them except in finish repair. Any ideas in either direction? Thanks!

Buffing a Tung Oil finish with steel wool????

On several projects lately I have been using Behr Scandinavian Tung Oil finish. From my research it is a Tung oil, other oils and varnish blend. At $6.00 a quart it was a lot cheaper than mixing my own brew. It recommends buffing the last application with 4/0 steel wool. I have heard of applying...

    Tung & Linseed oils - part 2

Here's a follow-up to the first article. I do have a related question. What is boiled linseed oil and how does it compare to 'regular' linseed oil. Also, I am building a children's picnic table out of pine or cedar. I have been told to finish it in linseed oil, but don't know if it should be...
