    Surface! Surface,! Surface!

Added the submarine to my grandson's pier bed! Doesn't look much like the six I served on but he's enjoying it; expecially the pictures behind the portholes! Can't figure out how to get the pic from my gallery?

    Gluing to a painted surface?

I have some small wood letters that I need to attached a painted wood surface and was wondering about the best method to do so. Would basic wood glue work? The letters are too small (thin) for any type of nail, so glue would be my only option right? Dave

    Hardening the surface of wood?

Now I'm not looking for a miracle here, just curious if there is anything out there that can harden the surface of yellow pine (even if just a little bit) without applying a film finish. I am using glued pine (its what I have on hand) for an outfeed table that will occasionally see double use...

    Surface rust on table saw

I have some "top saver" that I have been using on my tools but am not happy with it; I can develop surface rust on my table saw within a day or two of applying this treatment. I read an old thread on this site and am now sold on the Boeshield product but would like recommendations on the...

I put together a ceramic call this week and it sounds and looks great. I wll be making many calls using the ceramic surface. It plays as easy as slate with just a touch higher pitch and is very loud if need be. I put this one in a rhododendron burl / purple heart pot that looks great. I have...

    Homebuilt case for surface plate?

Anyone have ideas on building a carrying/storage case for a granite surface plate? Woodcraft had them on sale so I got one. We'll see if it helps with sharpening. The problem is that it's big (2x9x12) and HEAVY! I haven't weighed it but the Woodcraft guy seemed to think it was 20 lbs or so...

    surface rust

I would like suggestions on how to prevent or slow the accumulation of surface rust on my equipment, ie jointer, bandsaw, table saw, etc. My shop is my garage, unheated and uninsulated. Surface Oxidation on Wood Species

I have three small projects going now that involve SYP, red oak, and poplar. I know that the SYP will oxidize and lend some nice color to the wood before finishing, but have not noticed the effects of sunshine on red oad and poplar. The pieces are already sanded to their final finish so I won't...

Need some advice on surface defects

I have a couple of boards which I am not sure what species they are. I am guessing either Walnut or very old cedar. I threw some mineral spirits on them and took a picture: These boards have a lot of surface checks, knots, and wormholes, but the checks are by far what I am most concerned...
