My Marine Son who is stationed in Hawaii, has taken on a new MOS. He's now like the base handyman and has access to a full shop of tools on the base. He's also gets to swing a chainsaw from time to time. Anyways I'm putting out some feelers for bowl blanks, currently he's got a storm damage KOA that got blew over by the wind and needs to be cut into small sections that can be loaded on a truck to be busted up for firewood. Being resourceful, he's thinking why not turning or bowl blanks instead of firewood. If there is interest expect other species from time to time (nuance removal / storm damage / power line right of way clearing / etc...) He promised me he will not cut a tree down just to cut one down. The prices will be reasonable and we'll have to figure out some good means of shipping in order to make it attractive. But right now I'm just seeing if there is intrest, so let me know if you think you may be interested.

Thanks

I might have to try that spinny thing if I could work with Koa. If it's fresh wood, it may have to go through USDA inspection to ship to the mainland. Just speculating, but most ag products do.

I'd be interested as well. Koa is just one of the gorgeous woods Hawaii has to offer.
Hope this pans out. If you've never turned Koa it can be amazing.

I want Koa, Macadamia, Mango, and any other interesting hardwoods that might be available.

I am looking for straight grain quartersawn boards. 8"+ wide, 3'+ long, 1+" thick.

My guess is to get it past inspection stations... it has to be dried and bark free.

Thanks

John
