Made the lid for the oak hollow form recently posted. Padauk with African Blackwood finial. 2-3 coats of KWS/Mohawk satin lacquer.
Also turned a smaller version of one of these "live faced" oak hollow forms. This one is about 7" OD X 3" tall. Cherry lid with African Blackwood finial. Couple coats of KWS/Mohawk satin lacquer. Bit of a struggle to get the Jamison hollowing system tuned to the corner. Lot of Hunter tools used in hollowing this one.
Bradford pear crotch. Not used to seeing this light of color in this wood, Still a pronounced flame. About 8" dia. and lopsided ~4.5" high side (opposite pen) and maybe 2" low side (near pen). Some KWS sating lacquer. Wall thickness is maybe 1/8 along live edge.
Today's turning from white oak 11" OD X 2.5" depth, ~1/8 nominal wall thickness. Very much a target bowl as the oval grain is just about centered in the bottom. Edge is purposefully thicker. Shellac sanding sealer and 1 coat of KWS satin lacquer. I'll knock down the raised grain tomorrow and add 1-2 coats of lacquer over the next day or two. This one has some cracks filled with black epoxy with one new crack opening during turning. CA glue just wouldn't hold it. Pretty sure this one is gonna move a good bit. Maybe a kneading bowl on the way.
C&C always welcome and appreciated. I get better as you school me. And, thanks for looking.
