Recently completed project, mahogany dressing table with cabriole legs and tiger paw feet. The table was made according to plans from http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/indextool.mvc?prodid=LL-M-8 similar to a table the Museum of Early Decorative Arts (MESDA) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I attempted to make the ball and claw feet but was not satisfied with the outcome so the customer agreed to accept the tiger paw style foot.
The construction is solid mahogany with the exception that the inner portion of the drawers are soft maple and maple plywood bottome.
In order to reporduce an antique look, the completed table was fumed with ammonia for 48 hours (sealed plastic tent with a dish of 28% aqueous ammonia) followed by 4 coats of waterlox satin and two coats of antique mahogany Briwax. It was quite amazing how the fuming process darkened the color of the wood.
