jeff...

Got a load of soft maple and sycamore coming in and wanted to see if there is any interest.

4/4 Sycamore will be Quarter Sawn to expose the ray flake and has some ambrosia markings price is $1.50 a BF

4/4 Maple will be flat sawn and also has some ambrosia markings. Price is $1.50 a BF Price subject to change as I have not calculated my cost

4/4 Black Walnut will be flat sawn and may contain some white sapwood. Price is $1.80 a BF

16" wide 4/4 Hackberry (looks a lot like white ash) Price is $1.50 a BF

Sycamore board width will be between 4" ~ 12" wide, maple and black walnut will be 4 ~ as wide as the log will stand and hackberry will be 16" wide. Many (not all) of the maple and walnut boards will purposely sawn to book match.

All lumber will be green fresh cut off the log, not kiln or air dried, ends will be sealed with ancorseal to help prevent checking during drying. All lumber must be picked up at the log yard in Bullock NC - delivery is not included.

Buy a couple hundred BF take it back to the shop and sticker it to air dry, I can give you air dry hints and tips when you pick up your lumber. All four of these species do well air drying, this is the time of year to saw "white wood" to stick for air drying as the weather conditions are ideal for slow dry rates and there is very little chance of mold growth.

First come first served, once it's gone it's gone.

If your interested please respond to the thread and let me know. If there is enough interest I'll move this thread to the ad section, right now I'm just trying to gauge some interest.

Thanks

WOW Jeff sounds like you've got some nice stuff coming in. Just a question on the Maple. How bad will it bow? My walking sticks will bow like crazy if I don't strap them down.:BangHead: Man I lost some nice sticks to bad bow.:tinysmile_cry_t4: Now I strip them and strap them to a 2x4 with in a couple days. Good luck on the sales. I wouldn't mind having some but thats kind of a hall from here.

Jeff... I forgot to ask, what is the time frame your shooting for?

Kevin, I work on the honesty system, so you can come pick up the QS Sycamore when the log yard is open, anytime Mon ~ Fri (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM) and Sat till noon. In case, I'm not there, you can talk to Ted or Randy or Winston. If they are not there, it's on my trailer around back next to my sawmill (the orange one). Next to the stack of cement slabs. There's a 4/4 8' long pile on the passenger side of the trailer that's the QS sycamore. The 7/8" thick random length pile on the drivers side is flat sawn sycamore for Scott. Your more than welcome to pick out 100 BF and pay Ted, Randy or Winston if I'm not around just or if they are not around, just put the cash in the black door of my sawmill. All I ask is to please stack the lumber back on the trailer when your done picking. I think you can back your pickup truck down there to the trailer, were going to set those big cement slabs in the next few weeks so it's be real easy to move around back there and no one will have to worry about getting stuck.

Oh the board feet is not marked on the lumber so below is the board feet based on width (bring a tape measure). Figure width like this for example if a board is over 7" but under 8" wide count it as 7" wide (round back to the nearest inch). It's all a few inches loner than 8' but it's less then 9' so it's really 8'.

Board Foot
1x4x8 = 2.6 BF
1x5x8 = 3.3 BF
1x6x8 = 4.0 BF
1x7x8 = 4.6 BF
1x8x8 = 5.3 BF
1x9x8 = 6.0 BF
1x10x8 = 6.6 BF
1x11x8 = 7.3 BF
1x12x8 = 8.0 BF

I don't think I have any boards wider than than 12"

Here's where the log yard is and my phone number if you want to call me...

Thanks

I can't justify getting any right now, Jeff. I'd love to, but I still have the 150 BF of walnut I got from you, 30+ BF of sycamore, some spalted maple, over 325 BF of cherry and probably 40 BF on leftover White Oak I need to use up -- I don't have any room for more, even though your wood is such a good deal. (Plus I may jump on some of the black locust that Wes Keull has advertised at $1.25/BF to re-plank my deck.)

jeff...

Rob - deck boards made from QSBL would be the ultimate in deck building material, I think it would outlast you grand children's, children... Plus you could put a few black lights out there and it would glow a nice orange color. Invite some freaky friends over for a party :-D. Black locust is the only wood I know that glows in the dark under a black light. Unless I see the branches - I can't tell the difference between honey and black locust, a black light is the only way for me to tell looking at a log or after it's made into lumber.

I do know one thing, it's about like working with a brick. 1100 jinga is some hard stuff.

Nick - what size turning blocks are you looking for? Give me the max size for the swing of your lathe. I don't think you'll want to be turning any table top slabs, like BobN do you?

Thanks

jeff...

Got to meet Kevin (Turtlewood) this morning, like every NCWoodworker I've met, he's a super nice guy. There's a very high degree of good morals within our membership community.

Thanks for stopping by this morning Kevin. Sorry I was a little late getting out to the log yard. I have two strikes against me #1 I am not at all a morning person and #2 my dog decided it was time to roam the neighborhood. It never fails when your running late something happens to make you even later.

Anyways enjoy the QS Sycamore and BW you picked out some good QS ray flake exposed Sycamore there, it aughta make something very attractive. Let me know if you run into any problems.

Thanks

It was nice to stop by, meet Jeff, and see where he works out of.

The wood looks nice with lots of ray flecks. Too bad I have to wait for it to air dry, I'd like to dress some up right now. :eusa_naug

All... if you thinking about picking some green lumber up, here are some photos of the booty to help put you over the edge and dive in:
