    sawyers

Does anyone know of a mobile sawyer in the concord/kannapolis area. I will have a tree or 2 that I would like to get milled. The closest sawyer I know is in the Rock Hill area but is not mobile.

    Visit to Mountain Sawyers

I just returned from a motorhome trip to the NC mountains for some R & R and Fly Fishing. On the way up there, I stopped by Mountain Sawyers in Fletcher, NC to pick up some 6/4 quarter sawn white oak. They really have a great selection and the guys there are very helpful. The craftsman style...

Any Sawyers for a yard tree?

My next door neighbor has a ~45 year old silver maple in his front yard that he wants to take down (before it takes his house down!) Anyway, it is ~32" diameter at about 4' from the ground. It needs to come down because there is a crotch about 10' up that has a hollow with squirrels...

I do have a question for sawyers in general. I realize that "you guys" would probably not find cutting thinner wood financially feasible. As a scroller, 4/4 thickness almost never is useful to me. I don't have the ability to re-saw wood (current location of LOML versus shop), and even if I...

    For the sawyers

FIL has some acreage that would yield some nice oak. Would girdling the trees help in the drying process? If so, when would be the best time to girdle them? How long should they be left before felling? TIA.
