Ryobi 13" planer $137 @ Apex Home Depot

How do I know when my planer blades are dull
I have planed about 700-800 bf of lumber using my Dewalt 13 inch planer using the current blades. During my last time using the planer, the reset switch clicked out three different times. Thicknessing boards too wide for the planer
I have some 1/4" x 15" x 60" boards I need to plane down to 1/8". This is fresh cut green lumber. I am guessing removing 1/8" with a hand plane would be a lot of work on a piece this big. Anyone ever try something like this with an electric hand plane, or is there a better way? Thanks for any...- steambender
