Here is another Pen that I turned this evening. I found out that my FIL was coming down and I had promised this to him over Christmas and hadn't turned it yet, so I made this. He picked the kit and color he is a Commercial Pilot and this kinda looks like clouds.

I did preface it with some flat work. I swear there's proof its on the interwebs now. :)

I do enjoy turning pens..

Oh, you are addicted! But it is such a nice addition. Others reap some of the benefits.
Great job! Keep on turning:wsmile:

Beautiful work. Can you give me some hints on drilling and turning acrylic? I seem to melt the acrylic when drilling. That stuff is tough to get off of your bit and have mercy on you if you stop drilling and can't get the blank off of your bit. Also, it takes me forever to turn. Any hints will be appreciated. I love the look of the acrylic but hate working with it.

Thanks...

As far as drilling acrylic what speed do you have your Drill Press at. I typically don't go over 1200 RPM when drilling and sometimes that is to much it gets it to hot. Usually a good range on the Drill press is 500-700 RPM depending on what you can set it to. Take shallow cuts don't try to knock out half the blank in one pull. The slower the better. Heat is absolutely your enemy. I occasionally will shoot some WD40 on the bit when I am drilling if its a hard acrylic and building up heat fast.

As far as turning Sharp tools are the biggest thing I can tell you. I have changed over to only using a skew chisel when turning pens it takes a little getting used to but I get very good results and pretty low chip out.
