Look forward to meeting y'all. I'll bring a couple hand saws/saw horses. I'll also bring a 12v Dewalt panel saw, but the batts aren't too good so I don't know if it will do much.

See ya there:)

Thanks Jeff

I just unloaded my 200 Bdf of black walnut. It looks good, but needs to dry a lot. Fortunately the project I amusing it for wont start for quite awhile.

It was great to match some of the people to their names here! I am glad that everyone is a nice in person as on-line.:-D

Jeff I look forward to next months trip. I could really use either cypress of cedar.

Re: Thanks Jeff

I just got back home, after enjoying lunch with Mike Davis, NickZ, and Steve Coles. Nick, Steve, and I invaded The Woodworking Shop after lunch - I wasn't brave enough to buy anything today, but got some excellent counsel on the next TS blade I will get.

Made it home safely with 100 bf of Maple in the back of my little Nissan. I think I will be getting a trailer soon. the truck didn't mind the weight much as far as 'going' but it sure was riding a little light in the front end.

jeff...

It was great meeting everyone today. I'm glad there was more than enough lumber to go around. When I sliced into some of those maple logs, I was very happy to see some ambrosia markings - it just makes it all the more interesting and unique.

We had a few requests for Eastern Red Cedar and Cypress. Ted is working on locating some cypress, but there is plenty of ERC in the log yard we'll try and make an ERC run Feb 28th, details are here:

Thanks again everyone :icon_thum.

The Pickn-Grining Group!

For all those woodworkers who stayed home today you missed an outing in Raleigh! I decided to get up this morning and go to the HF parking lot for the great sale by Jeff on Walnut and Soft Maple. Jeff some pretty wood. By 1045 they had come alive and massed on the HF parking lot and started the pickin of there lumber. Although I was not on the list this time, I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new. Pictures were taken and I have some and Gofer has alot. Also got to go to the Woodworking store and Woodcraft and Sears to see my Daughter who just announced she is expecting. If that is the case I will be POPPA 10 times. I feel like I am in the rabbit family! But any ways I enjoyed the morning and the day. Hope to see Jeff on his run later this month or next. For those who missed it we had a good time. Terry

My thanks to Jeff, Ted and Weston for bringing the wood, and to all the North Carolina Woodworker'rs who participated. It was great to meet more of the crew and match real people to the avatars.

This is the load as it arrived:

And the happy crew after it was all unloaded

I'll probably forget someone or mix up names (the ol' CRS y'know). For that I apologize ahead of time: Clay, Doug, Ron, Tony, Jeff, Steve, Ted, Jim, Weston, Terry, Bryan, and Pete. I was on the other side of the camera.

Thanks again everyone for the companionship and the great haul:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

When it comes time for a trailer PM me and I'll get you the contact info for the place I bought mine. I couldn't find anyone with a better deal. Mine is 5'x10', 22" stake sides, 3500# capacity, steel floor, tilt deck, and I paid $565.00 IIRC. 'Course that was a couple of years ago, and I'm sure the price has gone up some, but they prolly still can't be beat. They do anythiing from 5'x8' to 8'x16' tandems. HTH

Hey, Don't knock him or that little saw! It sure saved us a bunch sweat making 14' 8/4 boards into 8' + 6' ones to fit in some of the vehicles!! It cut thru that BW like butter! (at least after I was instructed that the safety switch was pressed "down" and not "in". Guess I need to do a better job of keeping up with all this modurn teknolgy.):lol: If you make Steve mad, he may start chargin' rent next time!!
However, I must say that I fear that the Woodguy's Disease is having more affect than we thought. When I first pulled out my trusty 26" Stanley crosscut, the general remark was "What's That??":rolf:
Pete, some people out in LA pay good money to make their trucks jump like that in the front!!

Some more info/feedback for those that do the "Lumber Run":

Weighed some of the boards today: The 14 1/2'L x 8"w 8/4 black walnut at 25% mc (center wood measure after a cut) weighed in at 102 lbs each. Actual bf weight is about 5 lb per bf. With the generous allowance Jeff gave for splits, etc, the 100 bf load weighed in about 600 lbs. The outside measured mc was about 18%.

So, you guys with the 1/2 ton p/u trucks can carry 200 bf if the rear tires are maxed out on air pressure. Doug, I think you were pushin' it with the van:lol::lol: My ol' beast did fine with the 100 bf x 14 1/2' long, but I didn't go over 75 mph.

Jeff, I just sharpened that ol' Stanley about a month ago, so I knew it would do the job. Probably would have had to switch hands about half-way thru, tho:):)
