    Should the jointer fence touch the outfeed table?

    I am tring to set the fence on my grizzly g0490 8" jointer but I am not sure if it should be supported by the outfeed table or if it should be suspended just above so that it can adjust freely. Any thoughts?

    Here the upper mounts for the support arms are clamped in place so I can evaluate the design. As you can see, the implementation is not perfect - the upper half of the support arm is a bit too short (or the lower is too long). I'll need to adjust for this...or try again.
