    2nd attempt at a goblet

Here is the 2nd goblet I've made to date. It was turned from an old piece of cedar given to me by a friend. An inclusion in the base was left in it due to the shape of the log. Thought about cutting it off and turning a separate piece then gluing them together but the wife said she liked it...

My first try at a goblet.

Hi all. Had a Bradford Pear tree blow over from the storm last week so I cut it up and used a section to make my first goblet. Another first is the captive ring. Saw some turnings by Mike Mathews that had captive rings and wanted to try it myself. Used Capt'n Eddie's "Shine Juice" on it then...

    Cherry Burl "Goblet"

This is the first time I've ever turned a burl, so thought I'd start smallish and not too thin. The form is 5" tall, dry sanded to 600, BLO sanded with 600, hand rubbed shellac then hand sanded to 8000 MM. The base I took my inspiration from some tobacco pipe makers who rusticate their pipes...

    My First Wedding Goblet

I recently bought Cindy Drozdas "Elegant Finials" video and wanted to try something skinny with a bunch of shapes. So, I decided on a wedding goblet. This is the most enjoyment I've had turning to date. As I was wasting away the excess cherry, I practiced the three main cuts, V, bead and cove so...

    Proof - Goblet #1

As I was finishing up this goblet, I was sure it would break the stem, so I took this picture to prove I actually got this far. Then after I made the " cleaning" cuts I was sure it break, when I parted it off, so another picture. So after I wiped it down with MS, it looked sort of...

    Turning First Goblet

As some of you might know, I've set aside a couple of hours at the end of each day to learn turning. Some days all it is sharpening tools. Other days it is just playing with some thing, get some understanding of what I'm doing. I have a fundamentals book and have been some of the stuff in there...
