    I cut a big cherry burl about 10 or so months ago..I didnt what to do except I coated the ends with anchorseal and left it alone. This weekend I cut the ends off and split the burl and coated the ends with anchorseal ...I could turn the 2 end pieces between centers and just see what comes of...

    I have never turned any burls but have noticed some while taking some walks lately and would like to know what precautions one should take when turning these...Ideally Im sure it would be best to turn these outside to avoid any respiratory problems but would a respiratory and good dust...

    Just got this monster cherry burl in .. 500+ pounds and some of its youngun's This Spalted Curly burly Silver Maple is over 50" in diameter and 14 feet long, heavy solid spalt lines, curl and pock marked with burl caps. It needs to be chopped before sawing since the weight would be crazy...

    I am thinking of making the drive out out from Raleigh to Chris's to get some of the Cherry and Birdseye Maple burls. If others are considering getting some of these, I am willing to transport them. A little help for the price of gas is all I would ask. Let me know if you are interested. Doug

    Maple Burls

    I ordered some maple burl pen blanks, boy are they brittle. I drilled one and glued the tubes in, put the pen mill on them, they chunked out. I'm going to turn it soaking it in thin CA, the other three I have soaking in minwax wood hardener, see if that helps.
