My first turning

Well, if you don't count the bowl I made in woodshop 40 years ago.

Got a new Delta Midi lathe and this is what I made as a first project on it. It is a very large Mallet with a large handle that fits nicely in my large hand. I turned it out of one of the cutoff ends of the maple workbench legs. Just a quick project to learn how the lathe worked.

It is sitting next to what is left of the leg cutoff after I cut it out. It's almost a foot long and 4" wide at the maximum point.

Oh, and I decided to make it about the time I broke the handle of the 100 year old antique Mallet I was using.

Great looking mallet!
Superb use of the cut off, maple is a great choice, and that is some good looking maple!
