Is there away you can grind up nut shells and glue them together to maybe make a pen turning blank - any thoughts - would it be worth the trouble

Don't see why not. They make caskets outa walnut shells that way in Europe.
Have you thought about crushing them & using a casting resin mix?

I would not see why a person couldn't do that. I met a guy that gets coal dust and forms it into a cylinder form and said he then puts it in some sort of catylist to harden it and then turns pens out of them. Steve

they use walnut shell flour in some phenolic resin glues as an extender for glue for plywood.

I was just wondering because we have alot of nuts eaten this time of the year- I was wondering what kind of glue you would use

No glue at all. You use an acrylic resin and hardener. You can get hobbyy sized (pint) cans at Michaels. As other said IAP has a casting forum. You can cast just about anything into pen and stopper blanks.
