I don't mean to brag, but I got to spend a couple hours sanding this evening. One of my least favorite jobs. I can think of a number of ways to remove the remnant sawdust from the project, but I lack confidence in them (they came from my brain, after all).
So I'm working on a number of gears...
Tried something last evening to renew my 2" square micro mesh sanding pads. I bought a mesh laundry bag for washing delicate items and put the pads in the bag and washed them along with a regular load of cold wash. The bag was $2.48 at Target.
After washing, I spread the pads out on a small...
I hate to sand. Always have. I wonder if it's because I'm A D D or just too lazy to run through the process one grit count at a time. Anyway, I'd like to know what others use from paper manufacturers to power equipment.
I would like to know more about what to realistically expect from a sheet...
I have a Jet bench top spindle sander. I need to install a new sanding sleeve. I got the old one off, but can only get the new one on about 3/4 of the way. :-( I have taken the end nut and collar off so that the central support is not compressed. Any advice how to get the sleeve all the way on...
I've been making a few pens as presents and using a CA finish. It works great and is not too hard. BUT, on some of the pens I've done, I'm not getting the "depth" of gloss that I was I hoping for, no matter how mjany coats of CA I use. I've used Dozer's procdeure that is somewhere on the site...
I have an appt. tomorrow to look at 27 'old historic' doors that the customer needs sanded to be paint ready.
Knowing there may well be lead issues and that it's important that the wood not be damaged, I'm asking what may be the best tools/method to approach this? I have a good variety of...
Charles Neil has a neat way to fix a crack in a piece of lumber using a bandsaw. A good way to salvage those wide boards whose ends have a check.

I had four Klingspor sanding belts (3'x18"), two 150 grit & two 220 grit, for about ten years. Today I finally got around to using them. After 30 seconds of sanding, each of the belts came apart at the belt seam. :eusa_doh:No injury occurred, unless you count bewilderment.
Note: this...
I just bought a Craftsman 12" Belt Drive Saw-Sander. Model #113.243310.
I bought the required 80" blade at Sears no problem. Do any of you know where I can get the Sander belt. I can not find an 80" sander belt on line or at the Sears site.
I only had to pay $68 for the whole machine...
I've gotten kind of hooked on turning and my sanding problem is from turning a blank that has two very different colors like two tone Blackwood or combinations like Bloodwood and Holly. How do you keep the darker sanding dust from getting into the lighter color wood and making a mess?
I am concerned about my drum sander-but it might be the species. I have burned up way too many belts on my 22" Performax trying to sand mahogany.
Has anyone had a similar experience with mahogany, or is possibly something else?
Thanks,
David
When I bought the Ridgid Oscillating/Belt Sander I finally had a good excuse to build a sanding station. I took a damaged cabinet that my son got for me at his place of work that was headed for the landfield and cut it down and converted it to a nice sanding station. It already had rollers on...
Looked at this stuff in HD yesterday and a search here seems to indicate that 'blond-wood' is another name. Q is; will it paint well. One side was real fuzzy and my past experience with fuzzy ply (may have been the same product) was not good. End result I'm looking for is a lacquered look on this.
