Finished my father in law's gun cabinet this evening. I couldn't find the work in progress thread, so I just created a new one.

Yeah you can add another slot, both the butt and barrel rests are removable. There's really room to hold 8 longs guns but I decided on a 6 pack instead.

funny my son-in-law said he would like to have one. I responded, I would like to have one to :)

The plans are here they are not all that good. Mainly because they call for edge wrapped plywood, so the measurements and joinery are all funky. When you build yours give me a holler and I can show you some problem areas in the plans to look out for.

The finished product looks great. The lighting came out nice.

You could make this a tradition - each Christmas a different family member gets a custom gun cabinet! :nah: Nah, too much work. :gar-La;

Great, fantastic work there Jeff.
Really like the quarter sawn rays. Nice orientation.
Getting pretty good at the frocking uh?
I also like all the lighting that you installed.
I could have that in my house any day.

Great work, Jeff!!!:wsmile:

That case will look great in any house. The flocking, lighting and hardware all look really professional and that oak is awesome.

Thanks for sharing all of the pictures and experiences along the way!:icon_thum

nice job Jeff:eusa_clap what lighting kit did you use for the lighting

Phillip, I used this light kit, two of the lights for the long gun cabinet and the other one on the pistol cabinet. It was really easy to install, the only thing I didn't install is the inline roller switch. I'll do that when my FIL decides where he wants to put this thing.

I didn't flock - it's peel and stick felt. Felting was the most challenging part but my wife helped me and got me going in the right direction.

I spent a little time and found the work in progress, dentil molding, case on case, routing inside corners and the uggg... drawers threads that are associated with this project, if you want some background. A very special thanks to you guys for all the tips and tricks.

I installed the magnetic catches on the doors this morning so they will stay straight. You know how wood is, it has a mind of it's own sometimes. I really enjoyed making this gun cabinet. If I had to make it over again, there would only be a couple of things I would change like different door/drawer locks, but overall I'm really happy the way it turned out.

Thanks again for the tips...
