The motor on my Jet midi has developed a small squeak and has stiffened up considerably . I have checked it without the belt also and it is the same . Does anyone know if this can be checked or lubricated somehow ? I'm sure it will only get worse
I'm going to look at warranty but i am not the original purchaser and have no record of the purchase even though it was un-opened when I got it, it was a couple-three years old already :wsad:
The OEM replacement motor is $260  That is about what I paid for the entire lathe

Can any of you smart fellers advise a rookie on a course of action ? A generic motor ? A way to fix this one ? Should I just tell The Shoppe Widow that I need a new ( bigger ) lathe ?

Seriously I would like to fix this one, as a vehicle purchase and our tax liability this year has just about cleaned out all of my savings and mad money :cry_smile

Any and all input appreciated

Sounds like you need bearings. Should be much less than a motor purchase Brgs are pressed on, but can be fairly easily removed with a press and hand tools.

Give Jet tech support a call, everything that I have read says they are often very happy to help.

Sounds like you need bearings.

I'm with Bill on this. Replacing bearings entails taking the motor apart. It can be done easily enough by someone confident with their mechanical skills and someone that can borrow a puller plus figure a clever way to press the bearings back on.

Plan B: Take the motor to an electric motor repair shop pay them do the bearing replacement

Bearings are fairly cheap when ordered from Accurate Bearings in Chicago. Likely the bearings you need will cost less than $10.00 from Accurate once you tell them the size you need.

A lesser expensive option in hiring others to do your work is to take the motor apart and take the rotor only to an electric motor shop. They can likely press the bearings off and on while you wait, but you'll have to pay their price for the bearings and they buy bearings from people like Accurate.

Here's how I did a Baldor Motor
