Hello all,
I've been lurking on this site for some time and it doesn't take anyone long to see it's one of the friendliest wood worker sites on the internet.
I'm new to wood working but retirement gives me a chance to get into it. Like some of you I already have a list of honey-dos to start out with. I've got a grandson I'd like to get interested in wood working if I can. His sister wanted to know if that was how they made tape when I took them down to the shop to check out a plane I'd just worked on. They both filled thier hands with the "tape" to show thier mother and thier nana. You've got a great site and I'm glad to be here.

Hey! Welcome Steve, I am glad that you decided to quit lurking and join in on the fun. My daughter, too covets my plane shavings, I don't know what is so much fun about them :dontknow::lol::lol:
I look forward to your input in the forums and hopefully seeing some pictures of your work.

Steve, welcome! I like plane shavings too, there's something special about making those curly pieces of wood. Doug hit the nail on the head - we like pictures :)

yep, the kids love 'em. Thanks and I like your raising the price of your much needed tools to the wife. I usually get mine when she comes up with something she wants me to do around the house. Her latest is new cabinet fronts for her kitchen. It was good enough for my new Craftsman zipper. I have posted a few pics of my tiny shop here today already Doug, I could see how much the folks here like to see them. That was one of the main reasons I've been lurking here... looking at them. Some of them really make me want to pick the brains of fellow members to just learn half of what they know.

Welcome Steve!:eusa_danc:eusa_danc:eusa_danc

You will immediately find that any question posed here gets an almost immediate answer! There is a ton of talent and experience here to draw from. Sounds like you are well on your way to getting geared up for some nice raised panel kitchen cab doors.:thumbs_up (I just finished doing two bathroom's doors and drawer fronts and would never have gotten the decent results without the resources here.)

Hope you enjoy yourself and I look forward to reading your posts.

Nice shop. As most here know I am a fanatic for good use of space and your shop does that. One question: "Schlitz?":gar-La;

:wsmile:Welcome Steve, if you have been lurking you know this is a great place to hang out. I can relate to working out of a crowded basement shop, that is what I had prior to moving to this neck of this woods, You seem to have organized your space well, looking at the pics you are real good at utilizing every little nook.:icon_thum

Doug,
I picked up the sign at a flea market in NJ when I thought I'd be adding a room onto the house we used to have in VA. It's one of the bigger ones so I just stuck it on the wall down there instead of stashing it in the attic along with the rest of them. Like most of you, I have shifted and moved things around in my shop to try and get the most out of what space I have. I'll stick some photos of my "honey-do" shop which is even smaller next door. That's were I have my DC.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the NCWW pile-o-sawdust. It's great to have another woodworker join us. I have a neighbor who likes wood shavings too. He even makes special requests a couple of times per year for the shavings. He's a bee keeper and uses the shavings in a 'smoker' that is used to calm bees down when he works the hives. In return, he has been very generous with honey.

Glad you came into the dust pile with us, Steve -- you've obviously been dabbling at this a lot longer than you admit -- you've done a superb job of organizing your shop (even using the overhead space) and laying tools out to promote good works flow. I like your folding "table" shown in your lumber rack photo -- a great asset when you precut a full sheet of plywood, right? (BTW, what issue of ShopNotes is the rack from?)

And that was a great way to score a "zipper"! (for those that didn't know what "ZipCode" that acronym was from, I'm fairly certain that Steve is referring to his tablesaw, a Craftsman hybrid known widely as a ZipCode saw because of its five-digit model number). I've got a Big Bear widebody saw (Grizzly G1023SLX) and also have one of those nice new toys you just got ('tho mine is the original G0555 with a riser block) -- been there (to Muncy), done that!

One more question -- What is the sled you have under the fabric on you TS? Is it a Dubby?

Welcome Steve. It is great to have you on the site. Can we see some of your pictures? You are correct, this group of people is definitely the friendliest site I have ever been a member of. Do a test if you will; ask a question and see what happens. Just make sure you are able to spend some time reading.

Steve,

Glad to have you with us, I love your shop, it's got great organization. I spent years working in a basement shop and got some good work done there. Feel free to add, or join in on, any posts as we welcome all opinions. And don't forget them pics:icon_bigg.
