Captive Ring Tool????

Well I am considering a captive ring tool and I have never used one befor. I would like some input on this if you all Have a moment to sopare pros and cons. you know the stuff like that. I have made a few free hand but I have some baby rattles to turn in the future.

sorby makes a good one with interchangable tips fpr different size rings easy to use. like mine love making rings.

If a captive ring tool is anything like what I've seen on some websites I stumbled across ENTIRELY by accident, I think it could really, really hurt during the installation process and I, for one, fail to see the point.

On the other hand, having a PowerMatic tattoo on my right bicep and a Festool logo emblazoned on my left calf, I do appreciate the lure and charm of body decorations. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

I have the 3/8" tool shown below. I have only used it twice, but I'm satisfied with it so far. I have never used any other brand to compare it to.

I don't know much about captive ring tools, sounds intriguing. I made a rattle once and wasn't excited with the outcome.

Jim,

I already have one of those kinds of captive rings. and I have the tooling to do the install work as well. Not nearly as painfull as it looks.
