    Assembly question.

I have a 31" x 22" red cedar glue up. The 22" sides are the end grains. I want to attach 4" vertical sides along the 22" sides with rabbet joinery. I was planning on gluing the entire 22" joint. Is that too long when considering expansion? Any ideas opinions, or alternate assembly ideas...

    1" rabbet cut

I'm making the Bright Idea Candle Holder featured in Wood Magazine (July '09; issue 191) and have run into a snag. The parts on this project are small. One part in particular is 3/8" thick, 4.5" in length and 1.5" wide. The directions advise to cut a 1/8" rabbet - 1" deep into the end of this...

    Drawer Examples

Example of drawer front attachment. Note that drawer sides are nailed into the side of the rabbetted drawer front. This ensures that the stress placed on the joint is a shearing force, where the nails are at their strongest. This prevents repeated pulling on the drawer front from pulling the...

What size rabbet is sufficient for the sides of my bed??

I am working on the side rails for my walnut bed and would like some advice on the best way to glue up this part of the project. I have attached a very crude sketch of the side rail to show my plan (based on the fact that I already have two very nice 6" wide boards planed down to 3/4"...

    OOPS, Rabbet dilema

I am making a frame with a rabbet on the top side to accommodate a piece of plywood. Where this will go has an obstruction at one corner, so I decided to make one corner two 45's instead of a 90 degree. I cut the main four pieces and rabbetted them using my router table and then dry fitted them...

    Lock Rabbet Joint Durability

Hey folks, I'm laying out plans for a dresser, and am trying to decide what joinery method I want to use for the drawers. Dovetails are the obvious approach, but I like the simplicity of a lock rabbet, or drawer lock joint, (I don't have a dovetail jig yet). I'm planning on using 1/2" plywood...

    Lock Rabbet joint

I'm making a drawer, out of 3/4" plywood. As part of my continued education, I want to use a lock rabbet joint, since I've never done that one before. I want to use the table saw, since my my box joint blade does both 1/4" and 3/8" cuts. I found a great video on the Wood Magazine web site, but...

    Using a rabbet plane

I picked up one of the LN 60 1/2R rabbet planes on sale and have been using it alot. The last project was a dowel jig that I made for a ww buddy at work. He needed some contrasting dowels. I knew his pain because I like to do the same. Like cherry table with walnut dowels pinned thru the...

Question about rabbet router bit vs straight bit

I am in the process of setting up to make a large number of cabinet drawers. When it comes to cutting the rabbet cut (1/4") for the drawer bottom I would like to set up my router table to make all these cuts leaving my tablesaw set up for straight cuts, kind of like a production line. I have a...
