I had put some burnrings on a flute and there was runout...One side of the flute definitely had a bolder deeper ring...Any way to correct this on this flute or disguise it better. I tried making it deeper and I tried darkening it with a pencil and it still isnt quite how I want it.
I tried a different way of holding it between centers too and its about the same...

Re: Runout on Burnring? ANOTHER ????

I have a flute with burn rings I want to redo....I can just put it back in lathe and take enough off until it trues up as it is now in the lathe ...I know I will end up removing the existing rings...If I redo burnrings and it isnt quite true still I just remove a little more , burn the ring again with my wire until I get a ring the same depth all the way around ???? That should work I guess....right ??? Im just trying not to save this one !!

You might try alternate methods of burning. Rub with a Formica sample. Rub with a small piece of a hard hardwood like blackwood or ligum vitae. Curve your burning wire a little more.
