North Carolina "Home" Piece.
From the pine trees in the mountains, to the Palm Trees on the coast, and cities and towns in the middle, North Carolina has it all!
The design is from @etsy and was ment to be a vinyl cut design but, I wanted to try it with wood.
The first test did not go good at all. The laser basically charred the smaller detailed trees to a crisp.
So I sent the file to a buddy who's good with designing and he removed the smallest trees and sent them back to me.
After that I was ready to go again.
I imported the design into @lightburnsoftware and loaded my thin material from @buildersdiscountcenter into the @longer.global Ray5 20 Watt Laser Engraver and dialed in my settings.
I used a Speed of 300, Power of 87% and 1 Pass with Air Assist On.
It took the laser around 15 minutes to cut it out and it came out great. I wanted to give the thin trees and fragile letters better support so I took the piece and did the "Washer Technique" and traced out a perfect border on a scrap of 3/4 inch plywood that I then cut out on my @deltamachinery Scroll Saw.
After sanding that piece I stained it a dark color and when it dried I glued the 2 pieces together with Medium Grade CA Glue and activator.
Once that was dry, I gave it several coats of @rustoleum clear gloss for a finish and it was done!
The file would totally be fine as intended as a vinyl decal, however, I wanted it to be made of wood and it took a little trial and error to get it, but, it came out great!
