I have the metric, "almost inch", set of bench chisels from Highland and the true inch mortising chisel set from LV and I love them both.

Flattening the backs took very little time, and they're easy to keep an edge on. One of these days I may get a true inch set of the bench chisels from LV, but for now the metrics are "close enough" and get the job done.

since time was running out I bit the bullet on the Narex over the Stanley on sale at woodcraft

so NEXT

can some explain the best method to prepare them and flatten the backs.... what is the best thing to use for this and what else do I need to buy to make this happen

How do you normally sharpen your steel blades?

You can use glass, an offcut of granite, your tablesaw top or Jointer bed or MDF and an assortment of sandpaper and water or oil.
