Happy Easter Sunday!

I am currently try to finish a mahagny table top. I alreay applied a water dye and a layer of shellec. I was originally thinking of using oil based paste filler, but could not find it. Is it oaky to use water based paste filler on top of shellec? I read that water grain filler can only be used on nonfinished surface. Is this true? Please help. I appreciate all inputs and suggestions.

thanks and regards.

Qui, as far as I know you can use a water based filler over shellac. That's the beauty of shellac: you can use either water or oil based over it. Have you looked at Woodcraft in Greensboro for the oil based filler? You might also try some specialty paint stores (e.g Sherwin-Williams, MAB, Porter, etc.). They used to carry it.

Bill,

Thanks for the suggestions. I went Greensboro Woodcraft. But, they did not have oil based filler.

I will try to use water based filler tomorrow to see what is going to look like.

Regards.
