Does anyone own this steady rest? It's $ 35 and I'm thinking of giving it a try.

at 35 bucks you can't get hurt.:icon_thum looks like it is for spindle turning. It doesn't appear to be large enough for a bowl steady. I would replace the bearings for rubber wheels. steel bearings tend to leave marks.

thanks for the suggestion, i hadn't thought about replacing the rollers but that looks like a simple thing.

I use bearings on a spindle steady. I have gotten a few marks I had to sand out, but the trade-off is that the bearings allow you to steady a much smaller spindle. One of the tests I did on my home made one was to sharpen a pencil. Anyway, if you do swap them out, keep the bearings handy for really small stuff.
