drop leaf table to expanding table

been searching the web about a hour or so but thought I would make a thread here and see if anyone has any ideas

I have a old walnut I think dining room table... it is a drop leaf on both sides that measures about 26" each each and then the regular table part is 27" deep so open you get a table that is about 77" long and 48" wide

what I want to do is take the two drop leafs and make them the main table top and use the middle section as a expandable leaf. I figured I could put to stretcher with drawer slides to fasten the current drop leafs to the main base and legs of the table. just pins for alignment and latches underneath to hold them together then I can undo the latches and side both out and fold out the legs to support the top and drop the old middle section back in the middle when we wanted the table full size... other wise with the middle section removed the table would be about 50" x 48" almost square...

wondered if anyone has ever done or seen such a thing
