I'm looking for something similar to this...http://www.rhythmhousedrums.com/images/Tools.jpg

The smaller adze up front with the short handle. These by the way are the tools used in West African for hollowing out a wood log to make a drum.

My purpose... Stave drums sometimes can have a long sustain because the inside is too "perfect". To get the traditional sound you need to carve the inside (traditionally done in a spiral pattern down towards the bottom) this puts some texture inside the shell so the sound is quick and short. I've used a curved gouge ok in the past, but it's hard to do at the proper angle.

I picked up a bowl adze from woodcraft with a small handle, but it's not small enough. I'm not sure what the curve radius of the blade is called.. not the sweep but from the handle to the tip of the blade... anyhow, I need this to be tight and the handle small.

Anyone know of a forger, or seen something like this already on the market??

There is a fellow outside Asheville who sells similar tools. I'll look up his info...

He only lists two sizes of Adz but he can have any size or shape made. I think the blacksmith is in Sweden and it will take some time to get what you want, but it is some of the finest work out there.

Also known as ABANNA. I thought they only met 1x per month. something like the 1st Tuesday of the month, but it has been a long time since I wnet.

Also check out the adzes from Kestral tool.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably end up contacting him. I have looked at the scorps before and think they may work as well, but I've not tried one out. I found a blacksmith in WA that makes one for another drum builder that's more like the ones used in West Africa.

The curved gouge just isn't "cutting" it. I think maybe a scorp of the right size will work better than an adze...
