3/4" Birch Ply at HD in Apex

Today I was in HD in Apex picking up the last of a twenty sheet order of birch plywood. What is labeled as C-3 (shop grade) looks better than some A-2 that I have seen in the past. Clear on one face, and only a couple of dark spots on the other. But beware of the stuff made in China. Bruce

    Sande, Sanding ply

Looked at this stuff in HD yesterday and a search here seems to indicate that 'blond-wood' is another name. Q is; will it paint well. One side was real fuzzy and my past experience with fuzzy ply (may have been the same product) was not good. End result I'm looking for is a lacquered look on this.

    Lytus Ply

I was at W. Asheville H depot and they have a LARGE stack of what I think is Lyptus plywood(3/4). It is labled " hardwood" ply, but has flecks and tone like mahogany. At 25 bucks a sheet I think it's a good price. I bought the top sheet with the back side pretty torn up for 12 bucks just to see...

    Birch ply, maple edge

This is mainly for Travis Porte, but thought others may be interested. Travis was thinking about edging Birch ply with solid wood, but was concerned about it showing too obviously. These are pictures of a piece with Birch Ply shelves with hard maple edging and a black walnut inlay, I think the...

    MDF vs. Ply for jigs

Most of the mags use 3/4 plywood for jigs. I use MDF ('cause it's cheaper!). Am I missing something? What, if any, are the benefits of using ply over MDF? pete
