Mesquite HF

This is a 5 1/2" tall by 3" wide mesquite hollow form with a holly finial. The side by side is a before and after dying to illustrate the difference black can make in a finial. The HF is finished with lots of coats of WOP. Thanks for looking thoughts and critique appreciated.

Mesquite for free-sort of

Folks, Time to clean out the workshop. I have several small logs of mesquite and a couple of olive. I would like these roughed out into blocks (suitable for carving) and maybe some small planks for little boxes. However I don't own a bandsaw. This stuff is hard so handsaw work is mighty slow...

Texas Mesquite?

This past week was spent at the K/BIS trade show in Las Vegas. While there I found a dealer selling custom flooring and other items (countertops, etc) made from (what he called) Texas Mesquite. I've heard of mesquite -- like in smoking food -- but wasn't familiar with it as a woodworking...
