    Japanese Marking Guide Question

I picked up a set of marking guides at a neighbors 'moving sale'. He said they came from Garrett-Wade, so I did some poking around and found them at: http://www.garrettwade.com/double-45-degree-mitre-scribe/p/28K01ddd01/ What I found interesting was the note on the web page about the markings...

    Marking Knife

Since it is the time of year that everyone seems to be doing "project" work, I figured I would post one of the projects that I recently completed. The blade came from http://www.czeckedge.com/, and the wood came from a field of the family. I hope the recipient likes it. :)

    Measuring and marking

There are lots of discussions on the web on measuring tools, but they usually degenerate into "My Foo square is .00014 more accurate than your Bar square". Personally, I'm happy if my projects come out within 1/64" - about .015 :-) (or half a millimeter, for us metric fans). Anything smaller...

    Show off your Marking Knives!

After seeing the nice pair of marking knives that Wayne posted in his thread the one Mike added, I thought it would be a fun thread to see the marking knives you are using and preferably made! Here's the one I did a while back! The blade was from an old recip saw blade.

A Few Marking Tools I turned this past weekend....

The 2 marking knives and awl in the center are from a kit I purchased from Czeck Edge. I just turned the handles. Cocobolo and Honduran Rosewood. The 2 outside awls are wood scraps, 1/4" rod from the borg that I made. Obviously need to learn how to photograph properly. Look a lot better in your...

    15 Min. Marking Knive

While on my morning walk I found this kitchen knive in the gutter. I cut the blade off and made this Marking Knive. The handle is heavy and has good balance.

    Made Another Marking Knife

Since I gave my first one to Dad, I needed to make another marking knife. It as made of walnut with a bronze ferrule. The blade was from a floor scraper blade that has been floating around for about a year. Hope you like it!

    Marking Knife

Here is a marking knife I finished making last night. The handle is from a walnut log my FIL gave me, the blade was an old recip saw blade, and the ferrule is a brass compression fitting. Let me know what you think! I do have one question for anyone that has made something like this. How do...

    Hand-made Marking Guage

Hey friends, Just wanted to show you how I spent my satuday aftroon. This was a plan from wood magazine #158 Oct 2004. It was fun making it, I ordered the parts kit online and milled the wood. It is made from Maple and Bubinga. I finished it up with BLO and will sharpen the cutters after a...

    Marking Medium for Wood

Is there something better than chalk for marking pieces of wood? I have always used chalk, but it invariably seems to get wiped off during handling. I don't like pencil because it can impress the wood fibers and is hard to see on dark wood. I can't see using ink of any type. What about grease...

    Marking Wheel

I discovered this in my wife's sewing stuff years ago and thought I'd pass it along. Just roll on the lines of your pattern and it makes little indentations in the wood. I have put carbon paper under the pattern or just connect the dots. Joe
