Cedar Blanket Chest

This is a red cedar blanket chest that i'm finishing up. The heart is actually the locking mechanism. It is attached to a dowel which pins the top down when the heart is installed.

Hope chest / blanket box: Input & Suggestions?

So...as usual, I am procrastinating. Christmas is here, and I have not yet started on my due projects. One being a jewelry box (finishing will be the only big time consumer there), and the big one being a hope chest/blanket box for the wife. My first question is...is there a difference...

Blanket chest

Just finished up a blanket chest for my wife. We got a new bedroom set earlier in the year and she wanted a medium sized chest to match the "beach style" since they didn't offer one. It's made with poplar, MDF and knotty pine for the slats with 4 coats of white lacquer and 3 coats of clear. This...

Finished Pig in a Blanket

Finished it up today. The frame is maple and the finishing of the work sounds like a lot but was pretty simple. I sprayed the entire piece with a sharp mix of shellac, two coats. Not much build but sealed it well. A honey maple stain and tone lacquer was sprayed on the frame to age it and to...
