    Herman - Nutcracker (almost)

My son will understand. He's in Cardiology and I'm referring to the very large needle his character is holding.

    Herman - Nutcracker (almost)

14" tall Mike. Actually just happened that way when I made the first one. Kept them all the same after I made the turning pattern.

    Herman - Nutcracker (almost)

The 'almost' is because they're modeled after the typical nutcracker characters but don't have the nut cracker capability. They're basically just characters I've created depicting different jobs/hobbies. Started these when I bought a old 1940's vintage wood lathe and really didn't know what to...

    Magazine hole 'punch'

I know a lot of you, like me, are getting some of the magazines we subscribe to without the 3-holes punched in anymore. I was digitizing mine for a while and just boxing the originals but that was too time consuming. When they finally got about 20 issues ahead of me, I decided to make a hole...

    Deep sea reel

Howz this Frank... Found it's place. Might need something for the other side when I get more poplar from the neighbor in the Spring to make another table.

    Deep sea reel

OK...Now it's finally done! Put the decals on this morning but it still seemed a little 'naked'. Sooo.. I wound some of the old line from the original reel to the lamp reel. Wound some on the empty spool too. Then found a picture of a 1929 fishing license and made a copy of it and added it to...

OK... here it is. It's a lamp. Now all that's left is applying the decals I made for the line spool top and the rod handle.

    Deep sea reel

Been working on the reel/lures for a couple days now on/off. Made the lures and put a finish on the reel and lures today. Butcher Block Conditioner for the reel for it's lubricating properties and how nicely it darkens the wood. Three (3) coats for gloss Urethane for the lures before adding the...

    Deep sea reel

Got back out in he shop these past couple days since it's tooo darn cold for these bones to work outside for now. Decided to make a new lamp for the beach. Got out an old deep sea reel laying around for a while and decided it would make a good project. WHY!? Heck I don't know. Never did stick to...

Update on pull box wall plate

I've finally gotten around to finishing the pull box wall plate I started last year. Been trying to finish projects around the house and pack for a possible move this year. Painted it red and made the decals from some supplies I get from a company called Micro Mark. If you're into model making...

    Mum's jewelry armoire

Ray... I left the finish decision up to Mum. She'd like it painted a light grey or possibly blue? I have a week to change her mind about the blue... LOL I'm not plugging or filling any of the old nail holes used to mount the old siding though.

    Mum's jewelry armoire

This is the third project in my Christmas build this year. The first two you all saw if you looked at my post in scrolling about the 2 plaques. The Navy and AAPA plaques for my son's. This is the jewelry armoire I'm making for my wife. It was supposed to be a surprise but since my youngest and...

    AAPA wall plaque

Except for the urethane, the Navy plaque is done now too. I initially did the small letters with a spiral blade and didn't like the results so I dressed the letters up by going back over them with a #3 double/reverse blade. I'll pick up a couple cans of spray gloss and semi gloss lacquer tomorrow.

    AAPA wall plaque

Finished painting the letters and dry spaced them in place before final gluing. Gluing today and then final sealing with gloss clear. One down. Here's a shot of what the Navy plaques are to look like.. First cut. Using red oak for this piece so cutting is slow to minimize / eliminate...

    AAPA wall plaque

Got started early this year on my Xmas projects. Only 3 this year. An AAPA (American Academy of Physician Assistants) for my youngest and a Navy wall plaque for my oldest. Finally a floor model jewelry cabinet for my wife. The AAPA is first since it has so darn many small letters to cut out. (36...

    Another wall switch cover

I know it's been a while but I've distracted from playing in the wood shop to actually doing some useful stuff... LOL had to do some more cabinet work for the shore place so we can open up this weekend. In regard to the metal plate ideas, I actually bought a couple of the metal switch covers and...
