Sometime in the next month, or so, I plan to actually start working on the long overdue bench project for my shop. Looks like the project is going to be a bit involved, but long overdue. Anyhow ...

In my "study" of this subject, I've so far read the Christopher Schwartz "Workbenches" book (EXCELLENT! Thanks PeteM for the borrow), watched the 21st Century Workbench DVD and read the article (again, thanks PeteM), read about 5 full blogs on the build, and drawn a couple sketches of what I might want to have (probably a morph of what I've seen)

And earlier this week I found this website and bookmarked it. Just got to start watching the videos on it tonight and enjoyed the documentary and editing of unnecessaries.

So, if you are looking to build your own bench, check this out ...

And I HIGHLY recommend the Workbenches book that "The" Schwartz released last year. A great read with good plans included.

The blog of his construction is here: ( http://oudluthier.blogspot.com/search/label/Workbenches / Roubo Bench starts waaaay down at the bottom) and is very informative with beautiful photography. Who woulda' thunk using skateboard wheels?

That bench if one of the best I've seen ... in fact, I think that is the one where I first saw the Benchcrafted vise that I had posted about. Don't think I'll be able to pull off the wood thread screws and such ... though I sure wish I could!

I think one of the best benches is the Lon Schleining design he built for FWW. The building of a version is well documented here by our very own Monty. In addition to a monster, multiple installment thread with many pics, Monty kindly made and posted PDF files of his CAD drawings here.

Jeremy - I have found this site helpful in the never-ending quest for planning my bench. Many different examples.

That's a good set of videos, but I wish that they'd include the SketchUp plan (or a PDF) as part of their regular subscription service (I'm an FWW subscriber and also pay for the online service, too at $15/year).

Thanks for the link, Mark.

Just noticed... One more post and I'll hit 5,000!
