Hi,

I am from Wilmington and have been doing woodworking since my Daddy got me started as a boy. Over the years I have tried just about everything (call me curious) from inlay to building a house. I tend to adopt new technology faster than some of you may be comfortable with and I apologize for that in advance. I do believe that if I can use a machine to save me time I'm all for it. So it will be no surprise to most of you that I have a Roland MDX-20 tabletop mill and a 48" ShopBot Buddy with a 12' PowerStick in addition to just about every hand tool known to mankind. Before you jump to conclusions about my woodworking skills please take a minute and look at some of my photos...

Mike, welcome aboard and we're glad you found us.:icon_thum Pull up a stool, stump, or whatever you've got and get dusty with us. Sounds like you've got a very diverse arsenal of wood scrap creating devices and we look forward to pics of your work as well as any expertise you can share.

Brian.

Welcome Mike!
Nice to have photos before anyone asks:rotflm:
The Roland division responsible for the tabletop mill is next door to my office in California. Need to go visit. I thought they just made synths. Wonder if they have a scratch and dent shelf?

Mark,

I do know that they will come off list in a big way. I got my machine from a distributor in TN (Tom Buck www.pdi3d.com) and ended up getting the bigger machine plus a start-up tool kit for about the price of the smaller one. It got me started with CNCs for a reasonable price and showed me what was possible...

Mike

Thanks to Gary and Brian as well for making me feel welcome!

Greetings! Look forward to your perspective.

Progress can be measured from where you were standing when things "got better". I suspect many of us have benefited from the progress in metallurgy or we'd be using stone axes to make our Queen Anne lowboys.

Just remember, nothing good happened to woodworking tools after they left the 18th century behind and we will get along famously :p

Welcome to the website, Mike -- glad you found us -- many of us love hand tolls but love the ease of use of power tools even better. I'm such a critter and would love to hav ehte resources to buy more, but that ain't gonna happen! We do have a few ShopBot owners here, but not many... I've drooled on 'em, but can't afford one...

Jim,

Don't get me wrong! I love a good piece of steel as much as anyone. One of my ultimate goals in life is to make ABS Mastersmith. I make knives and quite a few of my own carving tools. I just think my time is better spent designing and finishing. I'd like to think I reach the same outcome - I just get there faster!

Phillip,

I look forward to meeting all of you at some point (did I mention that Phillip is my middle name?)!

Randy,

Thanks for your warm welcome!

Rob,

How do I call out my fellow botters?
One of the things you can do to see if you would like using one of these beasties is to download any one of the Vectric programs (www.vectric.com). They let you use a full program to make anything you would like - you just can't save the output. It's still a valuable resource just to see if you are suited to the work.

Roger,

I've been looking at the galleries and there certainly is a variety here! It will be nice to have people to bounce ideas off.

Trent,

I see alot of Wilmingtonians on the list but there are a lot of inactives. We need to do something about that! I checked your gallery too. You've inspired me to put my lathe back together again and get turning. Keep it up!

Phillip,

One of my vendors is up there (Axiom America - I got my shirt printer from them) and has been telling me all about your little event. Now that I am unemployed, I may actually be able to make some stuff and come up.

Dolan and Wayne,

Thanks! I look forward to working with all of you in the future!

Danny,

If we make another Seagrove run (my friends love the pottery) I'll let you know and maybe we can meet.

Charles,

Let me know how the surgery goes! If you need any help, give a scream. Starting tomorrow I'm doing a prison ministry program until late Sunday but after that I am available.
I love the inlay table!
