In the middle of planing some walnut my planer broke. I need to find someone who offers planing service to finish it for me. Anyone know of a business to help, near Raleigh?

Phil, what make/model. I have a friend....

He has a Dewalt 733 that has a recall notice on broken infeed rollers. Which, he happily learned, are fixed under the recall at not cost.

There is a place on Capital Blvd just down from Klingspor that does a lot of service work.

Jim -

I have a 733 (for 7-8 years), I have not seen a recall notice nor can I find any reference to one on the web. Can you point me in some direction to find out info? When did it come out?

Thanks
George

My bad, its a 735, not a 733.

My friend only learned of the repair being covered when he called to take it in for service.

Phil, I should be able to assist you with your planing needs. I'm located in New Hill, which is about halfway in-between Apex and Sanford off of US1.

I'm good for up to 25" wide.

I would be a little concerned about the nature of the "breakage". Did the motor or a mechanical part fail or did it burn up trying to power through something in the wood?

A couple of good points came up on this thread. It was my planer that broke down. It's an inexpensive tool that I bought used, and it is old enough that I have not been able to find any reference to it on the internet. At any rate I have no interest in trying to fix it. I don't believe there was anything in the wood that hung it up. Actually the wood was out and I was carrying it to the stack when cutter broke loose on one end, spit out part of a bolt and some metal shavings. The cutter now sets a little crooked :confused_ I will be giving it away if someone has use of any of the parts. It's a 2hp, 220 volt which seems to run OK.

I'm hoping to find a place that will finish my 100 bd ft for a fair price.

A working 2 HP 220v motor has a fair amount of value. I think if I were in your shoes I might offer it to someone in exchange for planing.

Phil, you are welcome to come over this afternoon (Sat) and use my planer. We will have to wait till sun comes out, as I use my planer on the apron in front of shop. Give me a call, and let me know what you want to do. I PM'd you my number last night. I'm located just west of Holly Springs. Bruce
