This is my first Burl I ever turned. I have been turning for a little over a year and finally felt up to the challenge of a beast of a bowl as this, I turned it very green, the branch was only down 3 weeks before I turned it. Got it down to 1/4" sides and 3/8" bottom. It is 9.5" diameterx 4" deep. I am going to wait a month for it to fully dry then finish it. What kind of a finish would anyone recomend for this piece since it has a lot of bark on it? and should i put finish on the bark sections?
Thanks, TED

after it's dry do your final cutting and sanding. then I would use a spray finish like deft clear lacquer. that is the easiest way to get finish on all the inclusions.:icon_thum nice work.:icon_thum

Looks nice looking piece,I have done several burl bowls, small hllow forms and I like to leave as natural looking as I can,so I just use an oil finish on them, then beal buff and wax.

I guess I should have mensioned it is a Red Oak Burl, Since this one I have several more I will post pictures soon. Burls look rel good but are a little more "fun" to turn.

Beautiful looking bowl, Ted. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap As was mentioned before, after it's dry, do some final turning, sanding and finishing. In the mean time, might want to coat it with Anchor Seal or wrap it up in a brown paper bag so that it doesn't dry too quick and crack on you. :BangHead: Beautiful work! :icon_thum

You might anna add some of the shavings to the bag as well helps with the drying.

Really nice work.
