Morse Taper Sizes?

Okay, a lathe newbie question ... what's the difference between the Morse Taper #1 and #2?

And which one would fit my lathe, a Delta 1440?

Maybe my Google searches stink, but I'm not finding the answer. I know someone here will know!

#1 is smaller than #2. Yours should be a #2.

Should be a MT2. Most lathes now are using MT2. MT1 is pretty skinny, about the size of your pinkey finger. MT2 is probably closer to the size of your thumb.

There is a chart on the McMaster-Carr site that gives dimensions of the different sizes.
