A few years ago my wife Laureen worked extensively on a terrible puppy mill situation in Sanford, NC. In this month's "Oprah" magazine, there is an article about the case and it mentions her involvement, along with some of the other volunteers who worked on the case and/or fostered / adopted the animals..

It was a very emotionally charged and challenging situation (including death threats against her), but her perseverance, veterinary as well as personal care made a tremendous difference in the lives of hundreds of horrifically abused animals.

Of everybody that was associated with the case, two years ago she was selected to receive a humanitarian award presented at the Harvard Law School for her personal contributions to the lawsuit and rescue.

Needless to say, I'm very proud of her and admire her committment to a worthy cause that she feels strongly about. Here is a link to the article.

Scott, What a great story. Very sad that things like this happen but so uplifting to see so many folks step up with acts of kindness. Please thank Laureen for me, and thank you for sharing this experience.

I think Milo, the blind pug, was listed on the pug rescue site our family supports. The sweet little girl in my avatar is Lucy, rescued from a puppy mill.

Scott.

What a heart wrenching story! It is just way too bad such a great person like Laureen had to go through this terrible ordeal. You must be very proud of the LOYL and all she has done. (I too recall the case and all of the news reports.)

Thanks so much for sharing the story with such a thankful outcome!

Awesome story Scott. I don't recall the story in the local news but it sure sounds like Laureen is one tough bird and deserves a big round of applause. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Congrats to Laureen!! After knowing you for a couple of years now (It has been a couple of years hasn't it?) and hearing you talk about her focus and commitment to animals it is VERY well deserved. The only negative is that it hasn't happened before now.

I told my wife about the article and she had to stop and get a copy. She really wanted to meet Laureen at the picnic, and did in passing, but didn't realize who she was. Vickie is really involved with the Animal Adoption League in Charlotte.
