I'll be in High Point Saturday to see Jerome Bias with his hand tool wood working and historic lecture.

It would be nice to have lunch and see other wood workers in the area.

Can we make a big show of support for Jerome and have lunch afterwards?

Here's a map to the museum

And the museum website

it looks like an interesting place to visit even without the special presentation Saturday.

Sounds like a great time! Unfortunately I am planning to go to the LN event down in Greer.

I didn't see anything about this, did Jerome post anything about it?

Sounds good. If I manage to finish playing with the plaster ceiling in my living room I'll be there!

While I can't make this one, if anyone gets to take a camera, Jerome's bench is worthy of a photo essay (hint hint).

Come on out!!!

Thanks for Bringing the thread back up.
Come on out!!! Come have fun, ask questions, play with tools!!

I will be out there from 11:00 until 4:00 having fun with my planes and tools. Lots of shavings will be made.

Depending on how far I get on the project tomorrow, on Sat, I may be working on a version of Eastern Shore of Virgina raised panel chest. I think that I have a thing for chests. Ya think?

I'll have the bench out. I think the top board on that thing is 18" wide, but it is still light. It is a nice portable bench that fits in my Nissan Frontier.

And I might even bring the new cleaned up saw horses. It's funny the new ones look so much better than the old ones. I made the old ones when I barely had any idea of how to make a mortise. They look ugly. But I have to admit, they work better than the new ones.

I had a great time hangin out and talking with Jerome today. There was some other stuff in the park and a nice Museum there too. PeteM and family stopped by for a while, good to see them again!

I made a bunch of pictures but I'm having a lot of trouble uploading tonight. Probably the phone lines still too wet to let the ones and zeros slide through.

Well here are a few pics.

It was a fun day:icon_thum

It was good meeting Jerome and see Mike again.
I got to play with some "hollows and rounds"
My wife got some weaving questions answered
And my granddaughters got to play with some 18th century toys - hoops, stilts, etc and the older one spent quite a bit of time learning and doing some calligraphy.

All in all a good day!!!

Thanks for the pics!

Isn't that dovetail/halflap bench leg something!

Sorry I missed it. We had a local fundraiser to buy our Police K-9's bullet proof vests.

Mike,

Thanks for the pictures. Look forward to seeing the other ones. Looks like it was a great demo/lecture. Now, I' sorry I did not go. Spent the day in the sun getting things planted in the garden.

I like those sawhorses. Don't know why, but I have always found them to be a interesting item and have bookmarked a lot of different designs over the years that are modified for various professions. Fascinating niche of wood working.

Thanks for coming out

I want to say thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday it was great to see ya'll!!

I don't know what to say about Mike. All I can do is shake my head. He showed up early helped me set up, kept me company, we went to lunch. He was even brave enough to help me strike my cluster mess and repack the truck. Wow!!!
Heck he even helped me exercise the last of Ian Kirby from my sharpening techniques.

Thank you Mike. When is the party at the farm?
By the way you have started me down a dangerous slope. I sharpened three saws this morning and I have two more waiting for tomorrow.

I'm glad I discovered y'all. Y'all are cool folks.:thumbs_up

Well, I have to say I think I gained more from the day than Jerome did.

It's been three or four years since I went to an outdoor event like that. The last one was Corn Shuckin at Horn Creek Historic Farm. I used to set up and carve spoons there. I don't know what happened to me, besides the bronchitis, pneumonia, life and the deaths of some friends and family.

It did me a lot of good to see people walking around doing new things and seeing the wonderment in their faces as they looked at Jerome's work and some of the other exhibits.

I definitely need to "get out more"! :rotflm: I have been a bit of a recluse lately. :embaresse

Watching Mr. Bias perform his magic with the wood (and the crowds) made me want to get back in the swing. And I think I have to build something with just a rock and a survival knife to prove to myself that I can live without power tools. :help:

All in all it was a great day! I'm just sorry that I haven't had more of them and that more of us couldn't be there to support one of our own. No matter what life throws at you there comes a time when you just have to stand up, shake the dirt out of your clothes and move on.

It's TIME folks! :slap:

Thanks for letting me hang around.
