Good froe at a reasonable price

They do seem to be a quality outfit; most of their timber tools are not economy models. I think froes tend to be pricey because they are specialty items. The one I am calling "reasonable" is still about $40 for a short length of hickory and steel. The same materials made into a gardening tool at the home store would probably be under $20. But heavy duty froes commonly go for $75 and up at other places. A note to other thrifty shoppers - beware any froe that doesn't claim to be general purpose. If it says it is for bamboo or shingles or some specific purpose, it is usually smaller and lighter.

I imagine they sell 1000 shovels for every froe. So, the economy of scale is much greater. And every froe has to be made by hand, one at a time while shovels and other garden tools can be stamped out by huge die machines.

A quality hand made tool that cost less than $100 is a bargain.
