Captive ring tool

Hi there folks the nice mail man brought me a Ben best M2 Hss Captive ring tool today but I dont know how to use one of these little buggers. Any help would be appreicaited. thanks Mark

Well you basically raise an area that will be your ring out of the spindle. Once you have the raised area a little taller than your ring tool diameter you use it to cut the ring to shape. Angling the tool in towards the center of the ring will start to "part" it off from the spindle. Depending on if you have a double bevel ring tool or single bevel you might have to use the other "handed" tool for the bottom cut. Once you have the ring free, slide it off to the side and tape it in place and continue to work your spindle down to where you would like it to be.

Yeah don't go there. There are two types of captive rings, we are talking about the woodturning type :wink_smil
